Carlos Cartaxo. In-sítu

From 9 September to 18 October, the Patio de Operaciones hall at CentroCentro will host this site-specific installation created by artist Carlos Cartaxo, which explores the languages of contemporary abstraction in dialogue with movements linked to what is known as ‘new constructivism’. The exhibition is part of the EPICENTRO programme, which aims to promote the guest artist’s career by recognising the quality of their work, their professional background and their contribution to the contemporary art scene. With this installation, the artist aims to enhance the viewer’s experience of the space occupied, altering their perception of it and imbuing it with new meanings. As on previous occasions, Cartaxo once again pays tribute in its own way to Schwitters’ Merzbau , in which this legendary artist integrated architecture into an artistic process. It is therefore no coincidence that the concept of relief is a key element in this work and leads us to think of the Renaissance period, when relief work was intrinsically linked to the wall. ‘In-sítu’ is conceived as a field of experimentation in which painting, sculpture and architecture are integrated simultaneously. Space ceases to be a mere backdrop and becomes an active element of the work, capable of altering the visual narrative through light, the viewer’s path and perspective.
