Prado. 21st Century

From 9 June to 27 September 2026, the Prado Museum will host an exhibition that offers a journey through the transformation process undergone by the Madrid museum over the past quarter of a century. Curated by Alfonso Palacio, Deputy Director of Conservation and Research, and Elena Cenalmor, Assistant Curator to the Deputy Director of Conservation and Research, this exhibition brings together a representative selection of works that have been incorporated over the past twenty-five years, arranged chronologically and thematically and focusing on the essence of the Museum. Through the works acquired over this period and a set of statistical comparisons, it presents the history of a vibrant and open institution that has built on the work of previous generations over the past twenty-five years to occupy a leading place among the world's greatest museums. The exhibition is rounded off with a review of various departments of the Museum and their activities, exemplifying its transformation and evolution: publishing activity, through the display of all books published since 2000; training actions, through graphic material compiled on the Study Centre; and the work of the Restoration, National and International Promotion, Communication and Education Departments, presented in the form of four videos.
